Summer Internship

Website City of Worthington

The City of Worthington is seeking one to two public administration/public policy graduate students for a Summer/Fall internship. The internship may be extended through the Fall depending on performance and the needs of the City.

The ongoing demands on City staff’s time result in an everpresent list of new initiatives to be researched and evaluated. Interns will be assigned items and asked to conduct policy analysis and/or develop program recommendations.

The intern will support strategic planning and the prioritization of actions in key performance areas identified in
the City’s Policy Agenda. This role will assist with research, writing and administrative support on a wide variety of
priorities that could include board and commission training, planning and zoning studies and regulations, public input processes for park projects, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, police and fire/EMS response strategies, a citizen’s academy, data collection, filing, and cataloging, assisting with software implementation, and the City’s sustainability efforts.

Interns will be engaged in priorities such as these and assist City staff with development and implementation of strategies to support the priorities. Work may also include support for public communications, digital content creation, and engagement related to other City initiatives.

In addition to these initiatives, interns will be exposed to each of the City’s departments and service areas. They will perform professional administrative work and attend and participate in various organizational meetings.

Ideal candidates will have a general knowledge of municipal government, understand principles related to public
administration, be able to work independently and in groups, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and be able to handle multiple demands and competing priorities.
