Generalist Intern

Liberty Township – Delaware County provides Fire/EMS, road maintenance for over 100 miles of road, greenspace maintenance for over 400 acres of active and passive area, and zoning enforcement. The Township serves a population of over 37,000 residents, has an annual budget of over $20M, and employs 100 full and part-time staff.

As a Generalist Intern for Liberty Township, you will work with our departments, Fire, Park & Road Services, Zoning, Communications & Fiscal, on a project and need basis. This internship is designed to provide a hands on learning experience in all aspects of local government. You will have the opportunity to mentor and learn from department heads, elected officials, and staff within each or our departments. Example projects and work may include assisting staff in daily administrative functions, developing social media and communications strategies, communicating with the public, assisting the Fiscal Office, compiling statistical data, and reviewing process and procedures for effectiveness and efficiency.

Responsibilities Include:

·         Working with department heads and staff

·         Using a variety of computer programs to create and edit documents, spreadsheets, presentations

·         Using Township social media to review and create posts

·         Working outside with the Park & Road Services to assess effectiveness of procedures

·         Working with and communicating with the general public

·         Attending Zoning hearings and assisting with hearing preparation

·         Attending Board of Trustee meetings and assisting with meeting preparation

Qualifications:

·         Must be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or higher degree program in public administration or similar coursework

·         Strong communications skills

·         Highly motivated

·         Interested in local government operations

·         Detailed oriented
