Michael Whidden – Troy

Michael Whidden, a Miami University senior majoring in Political Science and Economics, is a returning intern at the City of Troy’s Development Department. He has also previously interned at the Office of Director of Public Service and Safety.

Throughout his internships at the Office of Director of Public Service and Safety, Michael assisted with the Outdoor Painted Pianos project, Fourth of July event planning, Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area community study, and helped the City Engineering Technician with the survey of encroachments at the City Parks.

For the Development Department, he conducted the 2022 Cost of Living survey, researched design standards from various Ohio communities and best practices regarding rental inspections, and assisted with permit re-inspections. Michael will return to the City of Troy for one more winter break and plans to attend law school next fall.

Kaden Jack – Centerville

Assisted engineering staff in Centerville with field and office work relating to engineering problems and performing beginning-level engineering work.

Kaden has a goal to work as an engineer in the public sector after he graduates.

Mitchell is currently one of two Management Interns in the City of Dublin’s Office of the City Manager. He attends and is involved in high-level staff meetings, committee meetings, and council meetings, that provide him with
a great learning experience surrounding the day-to-day function of a large, public, organization.

Mitchell will complete hisundergraduate education in December of 2022, and intends on continuing to work in local government, in either a large suburb or urban city. After securing his first full-time job out of college, Mitchell will be enrolling in an MPP or MPA program, hopefully finding a dual MPP/MPA and JD joint program.

Caitlin provides professional social media content for multiple platforms, creates weekly special events to bring in a broader audience, creates and distributes content for our email marketing database and assists with executing the 5-year business plan at The Golf Club at Yankee Trace.

Caitlin wants to master the ins and outs of the event coordination industry, become more comfortable speaking in a public setting and stay up to date with current marketing and social media trends.

Nicholas Sanchez-Zarkos

Nicholas aides in research projects, the hiring/onboarding of new employees, attends board meetings, department head meetings and any other meetings through the HR department, organizes files and transitions HR files to fully digital, reworks and digitalizes the current application for Orange Township, designs and assists with the production of Core Values/Mission statement and email signatures around the workplace, researches insurance brokers, presents during HR workshops with staff, and manages the reference checking for new hires etc.

Nicholas hopes to complete OSU’s 5 year master’s program for HR in 4 years through early college credit from high school, plans on interning abroad in Spain next summer or in the coming years and maintaining his 3.8+ GPA and Dean’s List status for the remainder of his college years and his membership in the International Affairs Scholars program at OSU.
